blogging from blackberry 8310

As some of you know, I upgraded to a BlackBerry Curve 8310 a few weeks ago. I have only positive things to say about the little gem. The interface is fresh like the Palm was 10 years ago (but it hasn’t really changed since. I’m writing this post from the device in software that I found through google (browsing and installing over the cell network) called bbMetaBlog.

Things I’ve installed include: TwitterBerry, Google Maps, InfoSpace, MidpSSH, and Google Talk.

Other great things about the BB include: a focus on the highest utility–every feature is designed for you to get your task done quickly and easily, everything from the keyboard shortcuts to the sync software for the mac have been easy to pick up and it took all of 10 minutes to transfer all my treo data onto it.

All in all I wasn’t too sure about being uber-connected, but I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised that I’m addicted at this point.

Contrasting with the iPhone, I think you raise some good points. I’ve found that the iPhone has a lot of intuitive features—but you had better make sure you have your affairs in order before you use it while driving. Not being able to use a device unless it has your full attention is more than slightly annoying when you’re busy doing other things.

    For this blog:

    blog user:
    yourwpuser

    blog pwd:
    yourpw

    Default location:
    default

    Access URL:
    http://www.example.com/xmlrpc.php

    Categories:
    None

I’ve changed the URLs so my XMLRPC url doesn’t get picked up by bots, but you get the idea.

    Hi David,

I also have the Curve 8310. It’s a nice little device. I am a big fan of Google maps - it works very well and is my most-used application (beyond the regular email and phone functions). I also have downloaded Soduko to pass the time commuting on the trains here in Sydney!

One thing I’m missing though is a good GPS application that shows position coordinates, velocity, tracks, waypoints, number of satellites the GPS is connected to, etc. I have been doing some hiking in areas without mobile phone coverage and these added features would be nice, since Google Maps can only update when you have data service.

I did find the bbTracker which will generate a GPS log for processing later. http://www.bbtracker.org/

Not completely what you’re looking for, but might provide useful information after the fact.
